Find the Hearts

Do you when you were pregnant or trying to get pregnant and you saw pregnant women everywhere? Well, this is no coincidence. This is what your brain was focused on. You can actually train your brain to focus on what you want.

When you don't tell your brain what to focus on, your subconscious is in charge.

Unfortunately, we often look for the opposite of what we actually want without realizing it.

When you say things, your brain's job is to look for evidence of it.... I'm always late. I never have enough money. I will never lose the last 10 pounds. No one is going to hire me at this age after staying home with my kids. Your brain is always going to prove these statements true.

A fun way to practice training your brain to focus on something is to literally tell it to look for something and you will see. So, I heard Mel Robbins talk about this on her podcast the other day (in February 2025) & it's the perfect example. Start looking for hearts. I've heard people do it with pennies & all sorts of things. I was walking while I was listening to this episode and I literally saw 2 very clear hearts within moments of looking for them… one was a rock and one was a leaf in the middle of the sidewalk. Continue looking for them and you will keep finding them.

I recently purchased a weighted vest. Unlike the weighted blankets that help some people sleep... not me but some people, these vests help increase intensity of walking & hiking, build strength and help improve bone density. 😊 all things I want to focus on for my health. Once I purchased the vest I saw 2 people walking in them and a woman I know posted a picture of her and her husband wearing them for a walk within a couple days of using mine.

Now tell your brain to look for something more valuable to you, because you can train your brain to focus on anything.  I'm never late anymore. I always have enough money for what matters to me. Now is the perfect time to finally lose the last 10 pounds. Stay at home moms are the perfect hire for so many reasons.

This is one of the most valuable tools to learn.  Becoming aware of your thoughts, especially the negative, repetitive ones, is the first step to getting rid of them.  You can't change them until you're aware of them.

Take Action: Thought Download (brain dump, journal)

I know from my work as a life coach and all of the personal development books I have read and podcasts I have listened to, that journaling can be powerful.  And, I’m a sucker for a cute journal or notebook.  AND, I also hesitate to suggest journaling as a practice, because as a busy mom I sometimes don’t want to add one more thing to my already long to-do list.  I can’t count how many times I have started & stopped a gratitude journal.  😁  So, I’m not suggesting you commit to a daily journaling practice that feels like a chore.  I suggest that you keep a small notebook or take out a scratch piece of paper when you’re in your car waiting on your child, when you’re having your coffee or when you’re feeling especially crappy and do this practice.

Spend 5-10 minutes or longer if you’d like and write down whatever comes to your head.  Do not edit or judge your thoughts.  Just write them down.

(I throw mine away half the time if that makes you feel better.  I don’t want anyone to read what’s going on in my head, so you’re not alone.  Every human brain is a mess of thoughts.)

If you want to address your thoughts about a certain topic: money, your marriage, your kids, your body, just do that intentionally.  Write about that topic.

The more regularly you do this , the more awareness you’ll have. This is actually a form of self-coaching and I do this almost daily because it has been transformative for me. I still don’t claim to have a good journaling practice, but I do take a look at my thoughts regularly.

Once you have awareness, you have a lot of data.

Remember, your brain is looking for evidence for what you tell it.  It will always prove it true.

Now that you have awareness of some of your thoughts, you have the ability to change them.

You always have the ability to choose your thoughts.

It takes practice to think on purpose.

It’s worth it.

Wouldn’t you prefer for your brain to look for evidence that you always have enough money for the things that matter than the thought that you never have enough money?

So, find the hearts, expect to have money for the things that matter, expect to feel good when your partner comes home, find the areas where your kids are thriving.  Let your brain focus on the results that you actually want in your life. Your brain will find them. 🫶

If this resonates with you, try it. Send me your thought download or just email me a few of your thoughts & I’m happy to give you some feedback. I can help. My email is mimi@mimivelleca.com.
